Choose the muhurat
Speak to your Pandit at least two to three weeks ahead. The date and time are selected from the panchang and the family's details, so keep these ready.
Prepare the home
Clean the house, decorate the doorway with mango-leaf toran and draw rangoli. Keep a new vessel and milk ready for the kitchen ceremony.
Place the family deity and Ganesha images in the pooja room before the ceremony.
On the day
Enter with the kalash and the deity image. The Pandit will lead the Ganapati pooja, Punyahavachana and the homam. After the homam, boil milk in the kitchen and offer it to the deity.
Arrange food for guests and Pandits, along with tambulam and gifts if your family customs include them.
